Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

ABOUT US

What is Toronto Lindy Hop?

Toronto Lindy Hop (TLH) is a non-profit community organization run by volunteers who are dedicated to improving and enriching the swing dancing experience in Toronto. Our goal is to build a friendly, vibrant, and fun social Lindy Hop community. We want everyone – from enthusiastic beginners to experienced dancers – to feel welcomed and empowered. Events like World Lindy Hop Day are put on to not only share the love of the dance to everyone, but also to help raise money for us to run other events for the community, like Lindyworks.

What is World Lindy Hop Day?

Each year, TLH has hosted a celebration promoting the spirit of Frankie Manning, Ambassador of Lindy Hop (the swing dance of the 1930s/40s and today). Festivities fall on or around Frankie’s birthday: May 26. The last few years we have shifted our focus only slightly to also encompass World Lindy Hop Day (WLHD), which is also on May 26, to celebrate everyone who is keeping what Frankie and the other originators of swing help create, alive today! This event is also a fundraiser for TLH. You can read all about WLHD, and the origins and history of Lindy Hop, here.

All tickets include a beginner swing dance lesson (if you would like to attend), and admission to listen and dance to one of the hottest bands in town – Martin Loomer’s Orange Devils! Drinks are not included with the ticket. There will be bottled water and drinks for sale at the bar, cash and credit accepted. We will not have a water cooler.

Are tickets refundable?

Tickets to WLHD are final sale, however they can be transferred to another person if requested in writing by e-mail to info@torontolindyhop.com by the original ticket holder at least two days before the event. An exception will be made if a ticket holder is feeling unwell due to COVID-19, presumed COVID-19, or any other illness. In this case, a full refund will be available to the ticket holder. Please keep in mind that WLHD is a fundraiser for TLH. If you must stay home because you are unwell, please consider donating your ticket costs to TLH instead of requesting a refund if you are able.

Who can I go to if I have concerns about my safety and well-being, or of those around me?

We strongly encourage you to read our full Code of Conduct here for detailed information.

If you experience, witness, or hear of a violation of this code, or an instance of behaviour that causes you concern, we encourage you to take one of the following actions:

  • Speak to an event organizer.
  • Speak to an event volunteer, who will direct your concern to an event organizer.
  • Speak to a friend, someone you’re comfortable with, and ask them to either join you in speaking with an organizer or to speak to them on your behalf.
  • Fill out the anonymous Safe Spaces form located on the Contact page of the TLH website (www.torontolindyhop.ca/contact).
